Shutter PEN has 6 addresses holding 100 active SEATs, and 101 USDC AUM. That's a great start! Thinking about the next steps ...
The PEN brings the institutional design and infraestructure to effectively manage capital allocation and decentralized governance - now it's time to think of adoption and distribution.
One of the strong use cases that was discussed was regarding the possibility of having IRL events organization through the PEN, perhaps through atendees buying SEATs with their tickets and then participating on which event gets funded next. Thinking those specific use cases it's a logic next step in order to scale.
Perhaps we could leverage bounties like POIDH to increase awareness. Also thinking some sort of action towards Devcon might be useful since it logically has a lot of traction.
I'd suggest we wait a bit until we increase the AUM both for the funding round and the vault setup. I think we should focus on having as many SEATs purchased as possible during this following quarters and then have a full-blown funding round.
addressing the question 'How do we get more people to join Shutter PEN?'
Maybe the first growth push for Shutter PEN should focus less on explaining the mechanism and more on creating a clear public provocation around why cypherpunk public goods need long-term funding institutions now.
Considering that Shutter PEN is outward-looking, and its purpose is to fund projects aligned with the Ethereum Cypherpunk Manifesto. In my view, 1,000 people holding 1 SEAT each is a very different signal than 100 people holding 10,000. IMO, broad membership matters because it gives the PEN more legitimacy.
So I would test a first campaign focused on provocation (how do we make joining feel like a public commitment to Ethereum’s cypherpunk future?) That feels like a powerful starting point for broad membership.
Something like:
Cypherpunk values do not fund themselves.
or
The Manifesto needs a treasury.
Maybe even a Challenge format: Get 1 SEAT. Say why you joined (with a template). Invite/nominate one person who should care.
Lets make it difficult not to care.
I like this provocation/challenge approach, feels grassroots and speaks to early adopters we need to get. Definitely should do this.
And I'm thinking before this perhaps we make a list of core people who embody these Ethereum cypherpunk values, and reach out to them and invite them to join (although, I'm pretty sure Loring is doing this already haha) Once we have this core group, then we expand with a campaign, with their support.
